Are you a lover of elegant simplicity and are you currently planning a wedding celebration? One place in the world where design has been refined to elegant simplicity is Japan. The traditional Japanese wedding ceremony is a lovely affair and one should certainly consider arranging one if traditional Japanese art and design is something you have a true appreciation for. Let's look at some of the best ways you can go about arranging such a wedding yourself.

Location

Location is a rather important consideration for having a relatively authentic traditional Japanese wedding experience. Having the wedding in Japan is, rather obviously, the best way to ensure a properly traditional wedding ceremony in one of the many shrines or temples. Should that not be a convenient option or should it not be so important to the bride and groom, then there are certainly a variety of other options. You may be surprised to find that there are actually Japanese shrines and temples in the city or town where you reside, or in a city nearby. There are also options beyond shrines and temples, and a Japanese tea house or Japanese garden can be a wonderful place to have your own elegant Japanese ceremony. It may be best to do a search on google for your preferred town or city and the words "Japanese tea house" or "Japanese garden" in quotes just as it is here. Such tea houses and gardens should have an hourly rental rate for special occasions, such as a wedding ceremony. A traditional Western chapel is also a possibility, although a wedding of this kind would be more of a hybrid of Eastern and Western cultural concepts.

Costumes

The wedding participants' attire is likely the most important aspect of making a properly convincing Japanese style wedding. A bride wears an elaborate and wonderfully elegant costume in a traditional Japanese wedding ceremony. This is one of the primary reasons many brides may actually choose to have a Japanese wedding ceremony. Both bride and groom wear a kind of traditional Japanese outfit known as a kimono. The bridal kimono is lavish with embroidery and long flowing drapery design. The bride is adorned with an ornately beautiful headdress and her hair is worn in a style similar to that of a traditional artisan known popularly in the West as a geisha. The bride also wears a kind of white cloth orb that is said to protect the groom and her and better ensure a trusting relationship. A groom in a traditional Japanese wedding ceremony wears an outfit that is similar to that of a classical Japanese shogun. Around the kimono, the groom wears a kind of large shouldered jacket and also a pair of traditional wide-legged pants.

Ceremony

One ceremony option is to have a traditional Japanese ceremony performed by Shinto or Buddhist priests. Shinto priests may occasionally be a bit slow to understand the concepts of borderless cultures, so an alternative may be to have a Japanese tea ceremony style wedding ceremony. This is a ceremony that is apparently growing in popularity in Japan, at least according to Japanese media. The basic concept is that the bride and groom participate in a traditional ceremony and their sharing of a single bowl of tea seals the wedding vows as they now drink from one conceptual cup!

Hopefully you are now on your way to planning an elegant Japanese wedding ceremony of your own!
